Before we talk · A five-minute read—or a 90-second skim

If you're reading this

90 seconds before

our call... perfect.

Here's why you scheduled, what I do, and how

we'll find the question underneath the question.

The frantic-calendar version

You booked

because the answer didn't feel right.

What I do

I help CEOs find the question underneath the question.

The hidden assumption. The problem beneath the symptom. The option the original framing left out.

What I don't do

I don't find AI experts or dispense a faster answer.

Most CEOs don't need an AI expert. They need someone willing to challenge the premise before AI reinforces it.

What to bring

The decision—or AI answer—that doesn't feel right.

Your experience is telling you something. Don't tidy it up. Bring the discomfort with you.

That's enough. You may now pretend you read the whole page.

01

Why you probably
scheduled this

Your AI accepted the premise. Your gut didn't.

That feeling is data.

Somewhere on your desk right now is a decision with a confident answer attached—from your AI, your team, or the plain logic of the situation. And something about it doesn't sit right.

That's not indecision. It's your operating experience noticing something the framing of the question concealed.

AI can't have that feeling. It answers the question it's given—intelligently, confidently, and entirely inside whatever frame the question set. If the frame is wrong, it's wrong at full speed.

AI gives the obvious answer to the question it's asked. When the answer feels off, the problem is usually the question.

That feeling is where we'll start. We'll test the premise, separate the symptom from the problem, and figure out what decision is actually in front of you. Once the real question surfaces, the answer—and the direction—usually change.

02

Why you probably
scheduled this

Thinking is the process. AI is

the automation.

Perfect the question. Then accelerate

the answer.

I spent more than 30 years running a manufacturing company—zero-defect electronic components for cars, under automotive price pressure and California costs. Everything about the math said we should have died.

We survived by automating robotically—but only after we perfected the process. Automate a broken process and you don't fix it. You make bad parts faster.

The same rule governs executive thinking. The question defines the problem, selects the relevant facts, and sets the boundaries of the answer. AI makes everything inside those boundaries faster.

"I'm not here to help you find an AI expert. I'm here to help you ask a question worth answering."

I grew that business by 20X—and in 2008 I learned the other side: shrinking, restructuring, and making decisions where every option hurt. I studied under Peter Drucker at Claremont. But the operating scars matter just as much.

The frantic-calendar version

Bring one

decision.

Don't build a deck. Don't send a data room. Just be

ready to tell me how you framed it—and what still feels off.

01

What exactly did you ask?

The words matter. Bring the question as you asked it—to AI, your team, or yourself.

02

What answer did you get—and what feels wrong?

Bring the obvious answer, the AI response, or the direction everyone else supports.

03

Question Zero: What

happens if we do nothing?

Sometimes nothing is the right answer. It should still be a decision made on purpose.

During our conversation

Expect me to challenge the question.

You don't need to impress me, persuade me, or have the situation neatly packaged.

AI usually accepts the premise you give it. I may not. I'll ask what makes the question true, what it assumes, what it excludes, and why this is the decision in front of you.

The goal isn't another answer. It's a question that reveals the real decision—and a direction that still makes sense after the obvious assumptions have been challenged.

One more thing, since you're already booked: every client I have started with this exact conversation. If it's useful and we both want to keep going, we'll talk about what that looks like. If not, you still leave with a better question. Either way, the 45 minutes is yours.
